Tea Party members in Congress are ignoring a key component of their messaging to their very great detriment. Maybe they are delivering it back to their home districts, but I hear nothing in the national debate about America’s youth. And our young people, after all, are what the Tea Party revolt is all about. It is about the crushing debt that will steal our children’s future if not dealt with now.
The Tea Party is getting its butt kicked in all quarters — even the Chinese are after them — but they are good men and women who believe they are doing what they must to save the country for our children. Many of them will lose re-election for their efforts and they know it.
Rather than just saying “no” in rejecting plan and after plan, though, they need to explain why. They need to re-elevate the conversation to its roots — we are stealing from our children. And as far as tax hikes: One more hit off the crack pipe doesn’t fix what’s broken. We are overspending by 40 percent — borrowing 40 cents on every dollar — and our children will pay the price.
I don’t speak for the Tea Party. If I were in Congress, I would have taken the grand plan. But I do respect what the Tea Partiers are doing. I just wish they would better present themselves.
This is a very simple business principle and I’m at a loss as to why so few people discuss it in this “debate” (debate in quotes because a shouting match is not a debate): you cannot cut to profitability. That is to say, no matter how much expenses you cut in a business, you will not be profitable without increasing your revenue. Big loud DUH here. All of the European nations that are dealing with debt issues are raising taxes. Why is not raising taxes such a sacred cow on the conservative side of the aisle? The answer, of course, is greed and the unholy alliance between corporate America and government. The true focus of the government right now should be on improving the economy because improving the economy will increase GDP and close the debt gap. But that is not politically expedient. Instead, shout about the debt non-stop and scare the markets into further contraction. Great job. And who is the group that does more of this than any other? You know the answer. I’m going to get another cup of tea. Indian tea. That American swill makes me sick.

I do not agree with my good friend Bill on this one. Another way to view this is if I oppose a war I would not vote against a bill which paid for that war while troops are in the field, even if I voted against declaring war to begin with. We should pay the bills that are due and solve the political problems through elections and compromise, if needed.
